ANNOUNCEMENTSKatrina and HCADV DayThe violence with which Hurricane Kartrina ripped at Louisiana and Mississippi has exposed underlying social violence for the world to see. At the same time, violence against women and children continues, as evidenced by reports of sexual assaults in the Superdome. If you want to plan a domestic violence awareness project for Health Cares about Domestic Violence Day, yet also want to help support those affected by Katrina, please consider holding an event that relates to both. An awareness project highlighting the events following the hurricane unfortunately illustrates the need for further education and advocacy in the area of violence against women. For access to information on HCADV Day and free tools for your outreach project, please visit http://endabuse.org/hcadvd/. Katrina Relief FundThe board, staff and supporters of the Family Violence Prevention Fund want to speed relief to those who need it so desperately. The organizations benefiting from this new fund are: (1) Louisiana Domestic Violence Coalition Relief Fund, established to help victims of domestic violence in Louisiana: http://www.lcadv.org. (2) Louisiana Rape Relief, set up by the Louisiana Foundation Against Sexual Assault, will help sexual assault victims and the rape crisis programs that have been affected by the hurricane: http://www.louisianaraperelief.org.
